Dumitru Constantin Dulcan
With a career spanning over half a century in general medicine and dual specialization in neurology and psychiatry, the result of his passion and scientific interest in the miracle that is the human brain, Doctor of Medical Sciences (1976), he has also acquired expertise in neurophysiological explorations such as EEG, EMG, PE, and pain therapy. He has carried out extensive international scientific activity, participating in courses, documentaries, and conferences held in major cities in Europe, America, and China: Beijing, Rome, Berlin, Paris, Marseille, Geneva, Istanbul, Vienna, Minneapolis, London, Toronto, Sydney, Bangkok, Madrid, Lisbon, Florence, Moscow, Rhodes, and Nice. He is a member of the Romanian Society of Neurology, the International Brain Research Organization (IBRO), the Romanian Society of Psychiatry, the Romanian Society of Acupuncture, the Romanian League for Mental Health, the Romanian Society of Psychoneuroendocrinology, the Society of Medical Writers and Publicists in Romania and Abroad, and numerous national and international scientific societies. He is Doctor Honoris Causa of the University of Pitești (2014) and of the “Vasile Goldiș” Western University of Arad (2024).
He has authored or co-authored over 30 specialist works on essayistic and philosophical topics, most of which have been reprinted. The best known and most appreciated by the general public are: Inteligența Materiei (The Intelligence of Matter), first published in 1981, which, after quickly selling out, was no longer published, being banned by the communist political regime, and reached its fourth anniversary edition in 2021, supplemented, revised, and updated, translated into English and French; În căutarea sensului pierdut (In Search of Lost Meaning); Mintea de Dincolo (The Mind Beyond). Synthesis and Significance of Clinical Death Experiences; The Brain and Mind of the Universe, etc. He is the coordinator of the “New Spirituality” Collection at the Școala Ardeleană Publishing House in Cluj-Napoca. He has given numerous scientific lectures and written over 300 studies presented at national and international conferences and symposiums (over 100 participations), included in collective volumes or published in specialized journals.
His remarkable work The Intelligence of Matter was awarded the prestigious “Vasile Conta” Prize for Philosophy by the Romanian Academy in 1992, the “Constantin Noica” Prize by the Academy of Scientists in 2011, and in 2022, with the Award of Excellence for value and uniqueness in Romanian scientific literature, at the 12th edition of the Performance & Excellence Gala in Snagov.
Over time, the scientific activity of Professor Dr. Dumitru CONSTANTIN-DULCAN has been honored and recognized with awards and distinctions granted by cultural and official institutions: in 2000, he received the National Order “Star of Romania” in the rank of Commander; in 2001, the “George Florin Cozma” Literary Award for the essay Somnul Rațiunii (The Sleep of Reason); in 2003, the Belgian Award for literary criticism on the work of Maurice Carême; in 2004, the Order of “Meritul Sanitar” (Health Merit) in the rank of Officer; in 2008, the Excellence Award for the work În căutarea sensului pierdut (In Search of Lost Meaning), awarded by the Business Press Society; in 2014, the “Goldability” Medal of Excellence for promoting the science of spirituality; in 2015, the Award of Excellence in Military Medicine; in 2015, he was nominated among the “100 Romanians for world history” as part of a Radio Romania project; in 2020, he received the Award of the Cronica Timpului Magazine (under the auspices of the Union of Professional Journalists in Romania); in 2022, the Audience Award at the “Celebrity of the Year” Gala, organized by Professional Celebrity; 2023 – Myosotis Award for the most prestigious neurologist and psychiatrist of the year at the Radar de Media Awards Gala; 2024 – Trophy for “Ambassador of Spiritual Education” at the Ziarul News (Charity for Education) Gala.
On August 15, 2024, the “General Dumitru Constantin-Dulcan” House of Creation was inaugurated in his native village, Mârghia de Sus, at the initiative of the Pro Mârghia Civic Association.
